FFA Members Step Up For “Living to Serve” Meal Packaging Event

Nebraska FFA members packaged meals during the Living to Serve event held during State FFA Convention.

As part of the 98th Nebraska FFA State Convention, approximately 800 FFA members made a positive impact on the Lincoln community and beyond while putting their leadership into action.

In partnership with Farm Credit Services of America, BigIron, Farmers Cooperative, Tallgrass, and Meals from the Heartland, FFA members took part in indirect community service engagement by packaging thousands of meals. Each year, over 80,000 meals are packaged, and this year 100,000 meals were packaged during six sessions held over the course of two days (March 26 and March 27). The event took place at Pinnacle Bank Arena, and meals were ultimately delivered to the Food Bank of Lincoln.

The last line of the FFA motto is “Living to Serve,” which signifies the vital role service plays in the FFA organization. Members impact their local communities across Nebraska through service engagement, community service, and service learning. During this service event, students leverage their creative thinking and problem-solving skills to create local solutions to meet the community needs.

More than 8,000 FFA members, advisors, and guests visited Lincoln to celebrate the Nebraska State FFA Convention, where members participated in general sessions, competitions, educational tours, leadership workshops, and a Career Fair & Expo. Most events were hosted at Pinnacle Bank Arena, Haymarket-area hotels, and the University of Nebraska – Lincoln East Campus and Innovation Campus.
